A Personal Trainer can commonly gain their accreditation from online organizations and are only able to treat clients in the "healthy population" category.
A Physiotherapist is an allied health professional that gained their certification via a 4 year bachelors degree. Physiotherapist are normally used to treat acute conditions (i.e conditions you have had for less than 3 months). However, have been known to also treat chronic conditions based on areas of interest.
An Exercise Physiologist is an allied health professional that gained their certification via a 3 year bachelors degree. Exercise Physiologists are normally used to treat chronic conditions (i.e conditions you have had for more than 3 months). Conditions such as diabetes, heart/lung/kidney disease, Osteopenia/Osteoporosis.
An Exercise Physiologist commonly looks at the big picture to health. Breaking down barriers, providing the participant autonomy and the tools for self care.
Although an Exercise Physiologist is a hero without the cape - we unfortunately can't do everything. We will always look to refer our participants on to allied health professionals we believe may be the best fit for the participants goals. (e.g. podiatry, dietician, OT)

Your Exercise Physiologist will start by having a chat, recording things like medical information, functional limitations, exercise history, and goals. Following this, some testing will be done to establish a baseline - if you aren't testing, you're guessing!
After your testing and analysis, your Exercise Physiologist will then discuss the recommended next steps.
